Make Flaky KFC Biscuit's Right At Home

If you’re like me, you have biscuits on your brain for days after leaving a KFC restaurant. The golden flaky crust and warm buttery inside is like biting into heaven. And if food tastes its best in heaven, KFC biscuits would probably taste the same.

We finally tracked down a recipe for making them at home and they seriously taste EXACTLY like the ones at KFC. Here’s how to make them.

Ingredients:

  • 2 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/4 cup of buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup of shortening
  • 2 tablespoons of milk
  • 1 tablespoon of sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons of salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda
  • butter (to slather on when they’re finished)

Directions:

This recipe takes about 30 minutes and makes about 12 to 14 biscuits. First, preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Combine your dry ingredients in a bowl, then fold in your shortening so that the mixture becomes coarse and looks like pebbles.

Next, create a little well in the center of your dough where you will pour in one cup of buttermilk. Mix this together until you get a shaggy dough consistency.

(Pro tip: Add the rest of the buttermilk if it gets too dry, and if your mixture gets too wet add a tablespoon or two of flour)

Sprinkle a light layer of flour on the surface where you will place your dough, then kneed it about 10 times until it gets smooth. Cut your dough in half and roll out each half into a 1/2 inch circle.

Use a circular cookie cutter to cut out your biscuit shapes. Use the excess to make another biscuit. Place your biscuits onto a cookie sheet. Then brush the tops of your circles with some whole milk and bake for 13-15 minutes (or until they are golden brown).

Serve them warm with some butter and enjoy your homemade KFC biscuits.
