These four young boys are Josh Turner’s sons. Together, they sang “The River (Of Happiness)” in front of a crowd, and it was nothing but a beautiful picture of innocence and holiness.
A devout Christian.
This American country-gospel singer and actor was born in Florence, South Carolina on November 20, 1977. He grew up in the church and lived his early life singing Christian songs. He founded a gospel group called “Thankful Hearts”, where he sang bass.
His music career took a huge turn when he performed at the Grand Ole Opry back in 2001. Since then, he continued making songs which are mostly gospel-related songs.
The River (Of Happiness) was part of his seventh studio album titled “I Serve A Savior.”
Actually, the song was written by his wife, Jennifer, and his eldest son, Hampton back in 2014.
When he was making his gospel collection for the album, he really wanted his family to be involved. And after he listened to the song, he knew that it was a perfect choice.
He told Billboard a short story about how he really wanted his family to be involved in the creation of the album:
“I wanted for there to be a moment on the record where my family could be on there in some capacity,” he tells Billboard. “When I’d listened back to the song I felt like it was the perfect material to feature them on because Jennifer, my wife, and my oldest son, Hampton, had written that, I guess, four years ago. I had heard them play this song before. I had never really listened to the lyrics closely enough to ask myself ‘Did this go on a record of mine?’ That never even crossed my mind until I was working on this project looking for something to feature them on. When I listened to it, I thought ‘This is a really good song.’”
“They wrote it. They’re going to sing and play on it and all that and I didn’t even feel like I needed to be on it. So, I just let them have their moment so they could shine and so that’s what they did. I think they’ll be proud of it for years to come.”
Listen to the Turner family.
The boys are Hampton, Colby, Crawford, and Samuel. They were all lined up in front of an audience and together, the boys gave them a live performance that came straight from their hearts.
Though their vocals were not yet developed at that time, they still sang harmoniously and wowed the people watching.
They were still kids but they already knew how to blend their voices very well. Just listen to the harmony that they create, it’s beautiful, isn’t it?
As they belted out the first lines of the song,
“There’s a river way out yonder. Beyond the valley, across the plain. There’s a river where I’m goin’ when my Savior calls my name”
And look, that’s their mom, Jennifer on the piano.
They are indeed a family of singers. Apart from their beautiful looks, Jennifer and Josh have also passed their talents in music onto their kids.
The lyrics of the song are inspiring and will surely lift people’s spirits, especially during these difficult times.
“No more cryin’, no more weepin’. No more sad or lonely days. ‘Cause on that river, I’ll be smilin’ when my Savior calls my name”
The Turners were not trying to impress, they just wanted to shed light upon us with this lovely song.
These boys surely wanted no fame, they simply performed to send the message of the song to the people. Who wouldn’t be moved by their innocence and youthful voices?
Seeing adults sing songs of worship is truly inspiring, but it’s just on a different level whenever kids do it.
I personally believe that these boys will follow their parents’ footsteps and that one day, we will see them on the big stage, singing inspirational songs of praises.
