Even if you’re not a fan of cooking and cooking-related shows, you probably know Gordon Ramsay, one of the most famous chefs out there.
The Scottish chef, who has been awarded 16 Michelin stars, first appeared on TV in 1998 in the fly-on-the-kitchen-wall documentaries Boiling Point and Beyond Boiling Point. Since then, he has appeared on numerous shows, but he is mostly known for Hell’s Kitchen and Master Chef.
Ramsay’s personality has won over viewers of his shows around the world and, although he is very strict and demanding when it comes to his co-workers in the kitchen, he is generally loved by the audience.
The popular chef also has a YouTube channel, which has more than 16 million subscribers. In his channel, he shares delicious, original recipes with the YouTube community and viewers have loved them so far.
One of those recipes is the one shown in the video below, shrimp scampi.
The experienced chef shares the 10-minute recipe and he highlights that its strong points are the fact that it’s so quick to make and the high-quality ingredients used.
At the beginning of the video, he implies he’s going to have a guest, but the viewer soon realizes it’s Ramsay himself who will be making the dish.
The award-winning chef challenges himself to make the dish in ten minutes sharp and he starts working on it immediately.
He starts by skillfully chopping the vegetables and caramelizing the onion in a frying pan. Then, he seasons them and adds the cherry tomatoes. After making the flavorful sauce, he takes another pan and then he moves on to the shrimps.
He puts the seasoned shrimps in a frying pan to saute, while at the same time he cooks the pasta. He mixes everything together and he serves. It’s so simple.
Let’s take a look at the ingredients you will need for this recipe.
- 8-12 shrimp, peeled and de-veined
- 115g angel-hair or capellini pasta
- 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- 3 garlic cloves
- 1 large shallot, diced finely
- 2 tsp chili flakes
- 2 lemons
- 100ml white wine
- 2 tbsp capers
- 60g cherry tomatoes, halved
- 100ml seafood stock
- 55g butter, cubed
- Parmesan, for grating
- 1 sprig of basil, picked
- Salt and fresh cracked black pepper, to taste
Directions:
In a saucepan, pour water, season with salt, and bring to the boil.
In the meantime, heat a pan on medium heat with one tablespoon olive oil and saute the shallots and grated garlic. When they are soft enough- about two minutes later- deglaze with the wine and cook until it is evaporated.
Add the stock, chili, capers, tomatoes, and lemon, and continue cooking. When the sauce comes to a simmer, season the shrimp and poach for about a minute or so. Add the butter and season.
In the boiling water cook the pasta. Now you’re ready to assemble.
Strain the pasta and mix with the sauce. Add the basil and serve. You can add some grated Parmesan cheese at the end.
This is probably the quickest shrimp scampi recipe out there and at the same time maybe the most delicious since it bears Ramsay’s signature.
