Disclaimer: I will eat literally any type of french fries. In my eyes, french fries are the best. Potatoes in general are the best, but they really shine in french fry form. You might now be thinking, “but they can’t all be the best.” And you’re right. Not all french fries are created equally, just deliciously. Here, we’ve come up with a very important ranking of the best type of french fries. Just remember, in the end, all french fries are winners.
11. Potato Wedges
While delicious, potato wedges can sometimes be too much. They kind of just remind me of slices of baked potatoes. Plus, they get stuck to the roof of your mouth if you don’t have something to help wash them down.
10. Crinkle Cut Fries
Crinkle cut fries are good as long as they are crispy enough on the outside. There’s nothing worse than loading up those beautiful crinkles with the condiment of your choice then having them soggily snap at the weight of the sauce.
9. Chili Cheese Fries
You usually can’t go wrong with smothering food in chili and cheese, but unless you eat these fries fast enough, they get too soggy to enjoy.
8. Poutine
This Canadian french fry dish is a good idea at its core, but in the end it has too many of the chili cheese fries’ downfalls. Unless you are prepared to eat these quickly, they’ll get too soggy before you’re done enjoying them.
7. Steak Fries
Steak fries are really working their way towards perfection. They’re thicker in cut but don’t lose any of the golden crispiness on the outside. Plus, they’re perfect for mopping up the flavorful juices of a nice steak.
6. Shoestring Potatoes
Have you ever finished a bag of potato chips right down to the very last sliver of crunchy, salty goodness? Well shoestring french fries are on the same level of satisfaction as those few remaining, perfectly seasoned crumbs at the bottom of your chip bag.
5. Truffle Fries
Who doesn’t love a french fry with flare? Truffle fries are the special occasion fry of the potato world. So fancy and oh so delicious!
4. Waffle Fries
Waffle fries are equal parts surface space, spice, and everything nice. Waffles are probably second best to french fries, so when the two are combined, only magic can be expected. And for condiments, I highly recommend a mixture of ranch dressing and hot sauce. Weird? Maybe. Delicious? Absolutely.
3. Sweet Potato Fries
Not only are potato fries absolutely amazing in taste, but they’re also probably the healthiest of the potato world! As long as they’re baked with just a bit of oil and sea salt, you really can’t find much to complain about.
2. Curly Fries
Waffle fries might have a very similar taste to curly fries, but what they’re lacking is the fun factor. There’s nothing more satisfying than getting the longest, curliest fry in an order of these perfectly spiced fries.
1. Classic French Fries

And the winner is…the classic french fry! While this might come as a shock to most people, it was a no brainer for me. When you’re craving just a salty, warm plate of fries, nothing is going to cut it until you get just that: a good ol’ plate of classic french fries.
