When people visit Disney World, typically it’s a magical day they’ll never forget. Yet, one grieving mom’s experience was on a whole other level – and it was all thanks to the amusement park’s Fairy Godmother.
Janice Murphy gave birth to a precious daughter named Analiese. Sadly, the baby passed away a short 85-minutes later. According to Cosmopolitan, her life was cut short due to complications stemming from a rare chromosomal disorder.
Over a month later, Janice decided to go to Disney World and bring a purple teddy bear with her.
It wasn’t just your ordinary stuffed animal though. The teddy bear was very special in fact – as it contained her sweet daughter’s ashes.
Janice had Analiese on her mind that day while walking around Disney World. She even broke into tears thinking of all the things her daughter would “never experience.”
At one point, Janice got into a line to meet the Fairy Godmother from Cinderella.
Janice had the purple bear with her when she went to say hello to the character. Little did she know – it would be the most memorable and touching encounter.
The actress didn’t know anything about Janice at first, or why she was carrying the stuffed animal. But once she did – the woman acted with an incredible amount of compassion. Her response meant the world to the grieving mom.
Janice later wrote an open letter to the Fairy Godmother, which explained what happened.
Her viral Facebook post begins:
“To the Fairy Godmother I didn’t know I needed… You had no idea the young woman that was holding a purple teddy bear was me. I was just another stranger, waiting in line to meet a character at the most magical place on Earth. I was smiling but you didn’t know I spent 10 minutes in tears over the things my daughter will never experience. You had no idea what that purple teddy bear represents to me.”
Once the Fairy Godmother heard what happened, and learned that the teddy bear had Analiese’s ashes inside – she lovingly took it into her arms.
Janice continued:
“Despite your utter lack of knowledge, you included the bear in our interaction. And when you found out that my daughter died, and that her ashes are within the bear, you treated her the same way you treat every child that comes to see you every single day: with love, compassion and kindness. When you hugged her, and kissed her cheek, you made me feel like Analiese mattered to you.”
It’s an interaction that touched the mom’s heart and helped her connect with her angel daughter that day.
She wrote:
“You may not ever see this, and even if you do, you may not remember us. But I will always remember you, and how you hugged and loved on my daughter as if she was like any other child. You helped me feel her spirit in a place she was never able to visit while alive. Thank you thank you thank you. Love, Analiese’s mommy.”

Janice’s Facebook post quickly spread across the internet. It even reached the kind Fairy Godmother too.
According to ABC 30, a commenter left a message confirming that the actress did indeed see the mom’s letter. They wrote:
“I just wanted to let you know that your message/picture did reach your Fairy Godmother, as well as other wonderful friends at the Magic Kingdom. It’s these cast members and their interactions with guests that means the most to me and is what I see as true magic…”
