Eggs have to be one of the most versatile breakfast ingredients out there. When it comes to learning how to cook, figuring out the intricacies of cooking eggs is one of the first fundamental skills necessary to the entire process. Restaurants may often have new chefs prepare eggs for them a test of their cooking skills. Before you get intimidated, the recipe we have for you today takes the opposite tack when it comes to making eggs. Even though there are plenty of fancy things you can do with them on a stovetop, what if you could make them in the microwave as well?

As it turns out, you can. Of all the different egg-based breakfast dishes, one of the trickier ones to pull off just might be the omelette (though it’s also one of the most delicious when done correctly). This simple food hack can help you make your own omelettes using only a cup and a microwave. Fortunately, the results are just as tasty and the entire thing is perfect for anyone with a particularly busy schedule. So let’s get started.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup of milk
  • pinch of salt
  • 1/2 red bell pepper, diced
  • 6 cherry tomatoes, chopped
  • bunch of dill
  • coffee mug

Here’s what you do:

1. To begin, get out a small bowl and crack in your eggs. Gently break up the yolks with a fork before adding your milk and a generous pinch of salt. Continue whisking until it’s all well-combined.

2. Next, chop a red pepper in half and remove all of the seeds. Use a knife to finely dice up half of the pepper. After that, move on to your cherry tomatoes and cut each one of those in into quarters as well.

3. After that, get our your bunch of dill and finely shop up some of the end to your liking. Sprinkle that into your egg mixture along with the veggies. Give everything a good stir as well and pop it in the microwave for about a minute and a half.

4. Take the mug out when the time is up and give it a check. Cut into it with a fork and a spoon to check the consistency of the eggs. Although they may be slightly moister than if you cooked them in a pan, the taste and texture should be just as good as any other method. Enjoy!

Though it goes without saying, the steps to this recipe are incredibly easy to follow. Making an omelette in a pan requires a fair amount of finesse and skill to pull off perfectly. On the other hand, throwing your ingredients in a mug like this and microwaving it results in essentially the same flavor with almost none of the effort.

While the ingredients and instructions we’ve provided above are a pretty good guideline, there are obviously plenty of ways to make this recipe all your own. Feel free to use different vegetables and spices in your omelette mixture as you see fit. Add mushrooms, onions, cheese, slices of ham or even cooked bacon. It’s all up to you.
