Now, who doesn’t love apples, especially in the fall, as we’re slowly approaching the holiday season.
What’s better than comfortably sitting on the sofa and enjoying your favorite book accompanied by a mug of hot coffee and a scrumptious apple pie?
If your mouth is already watering, then why not check your pantry because you probably have all the ingredients you need to make these minature apple pies now!
As One Pot Chef explains, this recipe has many shortcuts and that’s why he’s actually calling it a “cheater’s” pie!
Let’s go through the ingredients for this simple and easy- yet delicious- recipe.
- 800 gr can of pie apples
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 3 sheets puff pastry (thawed)
- 1 egg
- 2 tablespoons cinnamon sugar (optional)
Once you have all the ingredients on hand, it won’t take more than ten minutes to put the whole thing together.
In a bowl, mix the apples, brown sugar, and cinnamon, until the apples are fully coated.
Take the puff pastry sheets and cut each in quarters. This way, you’ll end up with 12 squares.
Spray a cupcake tray with some baking oil and put one square of puff pastry in each cupcake hole.
Add some apple mixture in each one, and close each pie at the top, making sure it’s sealed.
Prepare the eggwash using one egg and some water. Whisk well and brush some on top of each pie.
For some extra caramel flavor, sprinkle some cinnamon sugar on top of each apple pie.
Bake in a preheated oven at 400 degrees F for about 20-25 minutes.
This is the easiest version of the recipe that requires the fewest ingredients.
If you want to spice it up a bit, you can also use a pinch of ground cloves to take the filling to a whole new level.
Also, some lemon juice or even lemon zest is a great addition as per the traditional recipe that our grandma used to make.
Now, if you really want your apple pie to smell of fall, Halloween, and holidays, then you shouldn’t hesitate and go for apple pie spice in your filling.
For that one, you’ll need three tablespoons of cinnamon, one teaspoon of nutmeg, one teaspoon of allspice, and 1/2 teaspoon of ginger. Mix well and use some of it in your pie filling.
Whether you choose to go for the easiest version or take some time to make a few additions to it, it’ll definitely come out luscious.
