This recipe is easy in all aspects: the ingredients are easy to find, and the directions are straightforward.

Plus, it doesn’t need that much kneading like other breads and pastries.

But first, let’s walk through some important notes in making this cinnamon roll.

It’s best to use ingredients at room temperature.

This includes the egg and the butter, softened at room temperature.

It’s also preferred to use warm milk – not too cold, yet not too hot.

The dough might feel too sticky on your hands when you knead it.

You might be tempted to sprinkle flour on the dough, but you don’t need to.

Just continue kneading the dough for 4-5 minutes, and you can see them come together in a nice, smooth texture.

The consistency of the dough may differ because of numerous factors.

It could be because of the egg size, the protein in your flour, or the measurements (using cups instead of weighing the ingredients).

If the dough still ends up too sticky, you can add a bit of flour.

If it ends up tough, you can add a teaspoon of water or milk at a time until it gets soft.

  1. Make the dough by mixing all wet ingredients in a bowl, then add the dry ingredients until it forms into a dough.
  2. Knead the dough on a flat surface for around 4-5 minutes, or 1-2 minutes if you use a stand mixer, until the dough is smooth.
  3. Shape the dough into a ball and flatten the top. Place it back in the bowl and cover with a kitchen towel for 5 minutes.
  4. Roll the dough about ¼ inch thick using a rolling pin. Set aside.
  5. In a separate bowl, mix all ingredients for your cinnamon sugar.
  6. Spread soft butter evenly on the surface of the dough and sprinkle an equal amount of cinnamon sugar on top.
  7. Roll it into a cylinder but don’t roll it too tight.

  8. Get a baking pan. Use parchment paper or grease the surface if you’re using a non-stick one.
  9. Cut the dough into equal sizes and place them in the pan with enough space in between.
  10. Cover the pan with cling wrap and let it sit for 50-60 minutes.
  11. Bake in the oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 20 minutes.
  12. Make the frosting while waiting by mixing the cream cheese, butter, vanilla, and salt in a bowl and beat until it’s light in texture.
  13. Gradually add the powdered sugar while beating at each interval until it is silky smooth.
  14. Once the cinnamon rolls are thoroughly baked, let it cool for 2-3 minutes before spreading the frosting.
