There are fast food meals that we just cannot forget. For example, McDonald’s Big Mac, Krispy Kreme’s Original Glazed Donut, and KFC Original Recipe Fried Chicken. Some have even tried to recreate the iconic recipe using their own creative ways.
Dairy Queen (DQ) is known for their delicious soft-served ice creams, especially with their iconic Blizzard which has various flavors and toppings you can choose from.
However, they also serve other food meals that are just as satisfying as their desserts.
One of them is their mouthwatering classic Steak Fingers and Gravy which is incredibly famous in Texas. Moreover, this specific product isn’t available in many DQ branches around the world.

There is no need to drive through DQ’s shops to search for this product when you can easily cook it in your yard. Cowboy Kent Rollins, a cowboy cook for 25 years, who is famous for his outstanding outdoor cooking recipes, will easily show you how to make your own DQ Finger Steak by following his unique cooking style.
With this dish, he suggests you try his original seasoning
Rollin’s original blend was first made as a steak rub, but he later realized that it complements other dishes as well.
What’s great about this is the fact that this seasoning is purely made with natural ingredients, no MSG, and other additives, so you can be healthy while eating tasty dishes.
If you want to try making it on your own, here’s the recipe that Rollins provided.
The ingredients that you need are:
• 3, 5-ounce cubed round certified Angus steak
• 2 cups all-purpose flour
• 3 tablespoons cornstarch divided
• 1 tablespoon baking powder
• 1 ½ tablespoons Red River Ranch Seasoning or your favorite all-purpose seasoning
• 2 large eggs
• 1 ½ cups buttermilk
• Oil for frying
These are the steps you can follow for the perfect Golden-fried Cowboy Steak Fingers
• Cut the Angus steak into 1-inch strips and set aside
• Pour the flour, 2 tablespoons cornstarch, baking powder, and the all-purpose seasoning using a medium bowl and mix them together.
• Get another bowl to whisk the eggs, along with the buttermilk and the remaining tablespoon of cornstarch.
• Preheat the oil to 350 degrees F (176.667 C) using your deep fryer or Dutch oven
• Coat the steak strips by dipping them on the flour mixture, then the egg mixture.
• Repeat the dipping process a second time and finish it in the flour mixture then set on a wire rack for at least 3 minutes to let the batter and flour dry which will help it stick to the meat.
• Fry the strips in the preheated oil for about 3 to 4 minutes, or until it turns golden brown.
The finishing touch
If you want to make your own gravy to pair with the finger steaks, Rollins suggests that you make it using heavy cream rather than milk. That way, the texture would be more consistent and tastier than the latter.
After following the steps above, you can finally serve those hot finger steaks to be enjoyed with your loved ones.
