There are lots of advantages to making your own dog treats. It’s an inexpensive way to keep your furry friends happy and you know that there aren’t any chemicals or artificial flavors in them.

Here are 10 of our favorite DIY dog treat recipes.

Carrot Cake Cupcakes

Your furry friends can enjoy carrot cake too! To make these cupcakes, combine 2 cups of shredded carrots, 3 eggs, 1/2 cup of unsweetened applesauce, 2 tsp of cinnamon, 1/2 cup of rolled oats and 3 cups of whole wheat flour.

Spoon the mixture into a greased muffin tin and bake for 25 minutes at 350 degrees. You can even add some cream cheese frosting. Find the recipe here.

Fresh Breath Treats

Does your dog have stinky breath? There’s a recipe for that! Mix 2 cups of whole wheat flour, 1 cup of oats, 1 tablespoon dried or fresh parsley, 1/2 cup of dry milk, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, 2 large eggs, 1 cup of peanut butter, and 1/2 cup fo water.

Then add a little bit more water so that your mixture forms a dough. Roll it out and cut into shapes, then place and a greased sheet for 40 to 60 minutes at 300 degrees. Get the full tutorial here.

Paw-Print Dog Treats

These treats are as adorable as your puppy is. For this recipe, you’ll mix flour, wheat germ, brewer’s yeast, and salt in a large bowl. Pour some canola oil into a separate bowl and mix in the flour in three intervals. Alternate with mixing in one cup of stock.

Your mix should turn into a dough which you’ll kneed on a floured surface for about two minutes. Roll out the dough on parchment covered sheets, make use your finger to mimic paw-prints.

Flax Seed Dog Biscuits

These healthy treats can be even healthier if you ground the flax seeds in this recipe. First, mix together wheat flour, bread flour, wheat germ, salt, brown sugar, eggs and vegetable oil. Combine your dry milk powder with water and mix it in with your other ingredients.

Peanut Butter Pumpkin Treats

These could be delicious for people if you substituted some sugar for the chicken broth. To please your pup, combine 1/2 cup of creamy peanut butter, 1/4 cup honey, 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil, 1 cup of chicken broth, 1 cup of rolled oats, 1 cup of whole wheat flour, and 1 cup all-purpose flour.

Cinnamon Bun Bites

Cinnamon buns aren’t for humans only! To make cinnamon bun bites, mix 2 cups of wheat flour, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, 2 tablespoons of honey, one teaspoon of cinnamon, and 1/4 teaspoon of salt. Combine 1/2 cup of water, 1/4 cup canola oil, and one egg in a separate bowl. Combine it with your bowl of dry ingredients.

Doggie Pretzels

The dough for this doggie pretzel uses 1 teaspoon brown sugar, 2 teaspoons of active dry yeast, 3/4 cups of whole wheat flour, 1/4 cup of dry milk, 1/2 tbsp of salt, 1/2 a beaten egg, 2 tbsp. of oil, and 2/3 cup of water.

Kneed your dough on a hard surface until it becomes firm enough to shape into a rope. Bake your pretzel sticks at 350 degrees for 15 minutes. Here‘s the tutorial.

Bacon Dog Treats

Everyone loves bacon, including your dog. Get your dog their bacon fix by mixing 1 1/2 cups of whole wheat flour, 1/2 cup of wheat germ, 1/2 cup of melted bacon fat, 1 large egg, and 1/2 cup of cold water. Roll out the dough and cut it into bars.

Poke some holes in your bars and bake for 20 minutes at 350 degrees. Turn off your oven, take them out, flip them over and put them back in the oven until the oven cools down. You’ll find the recipe here.

Blueberry Pupcakes

Crush up 1/2 a cup of dry dog food in a food processor, a package of Jiffy blueberry muffin mix, 1 cup of blueberries, two eggs, and 2/3 cup of evaporated low-fat milk.

Mix 2 cups of barley flour, 1/2 cup of oatmeal, 1/3 cup of shredded cheddar, 1/4 cup of parmesan cheese, 1/3 cup of unsweetened applesauce, 2 tablespoons of olive oil, and 3 tablespoons of water to make the dough.

Roll the dough flat between two pieces of plastic wrap, then cut out biscuit shapes and place them one inch apart and a baking sheet that is lined with parchment. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Your dog will love you for making these.
