We are already in the middle of the summer and Sunday bbq gatherings and pool parties call for fresh-looking and tasting desserts.
One of the most delicious recipes that will make your guests ask for more is the all-time classic strawberry pretzel salad.
Now, you may ask why it’s called a salad since it’s a dessert, but you can call it whatever you like, you’ll still enjoy it.
YouTuber The Stay At Home Chef shared an easy recipe to make the dessert and, let us tell you, anyone can make it. It’s so simple and it really doesn’t take much time or any hard-to-find ingredients.
So let’s get to it.
For the recipe you will need:
- 2 cups pretzels
- ¾ cup butter, melted
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 3 cups heavy whipping cream
- 8 ounces softened cream cheese
- 1 cup granulated sugar (divided into two half cups)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups water
- 2 small packages instant strawberry jello
- 20 ounces frozen strawberries
To make the recipe the steps are as easy as that:
Crush the pretzels using a chopper or whatever you have on hand. You can even crush them in a resealable bag using a rolling pin. Add the two tablespoons of sugar and the melted butter, and mix well.
Put the mixture in a 9×13 oven-safe dish and bake in a preheated oven at 375 degrees F for about ten minutes.
Let it cool. In the meantime, prepare the cream cheese layer.
Mix the whipping cream with half a cup of granulated sugar until stiff peaks form. In another bowl, mix together the cream cheese with the remaining sugar.
Now take half of the whipped cream and mix it with the cream cheese mixture.
Once the crust has cooled completely, put dollops of the cream cheese mixture on it and carefully spread it across the crust.
Make sure the edges are sealed so that no jello drips down later on. This will ensure you’ll have perfect layers when the dessert is ready.
Keep the remaining whipped cream in the fridge for later on.
Prepare the jello by bringing the water to a boil, and adding the strawberry gelatin. Stir well until there are no lumps. Add sliced frozen strawberries to the mixture and pour the mixture on top of the cream layer, making sure you spread it evenly.
Refrigerate for at least two hours, and then top the dessert with the remaining whipped cream.
Serve and enjoy!
And, while the dessert is really easy to make and very forgiving, you might have some of the following questions. And, guess what, we’re here to answer them all.
Wondering if you can use store-bought whipped cream instead of homemade? Of course, you can. In fact, other bloggers claim that it’s better since it holds up longer.
If you can’t decide what pretzels are best for this recipe, then keep in mind that salted pretzels are the way to go for this one.
Finally, in case you want to give this classic dessert a twist, you can substitute strawberry jello and frozen strawberries for peach jello and frozen peach slices.
Just get in the kitchen and enjoy making this delicious treat. Don’t worry, the result will definitely be mouth-watering!
