Cooking doesn’t get much easier when you’re using a crockpot. That’s why we love a good crockpot recipe. You toss in the ingredients, turn it on, let it sit for the allotted time and you’re done.
You can even let your recipe cook all day while you’re at work. And when you come home, you have a delicious home cooked meal waiting for you.
It’s fun to invite your family and friends over for a good meal and to spend time together, but it can be a lot of work. Well, next time you’re entertaining you can let your crockpot do all of the work for you. One dish that is super easy and perfect for casually entertaining a crowd is meatballs.
They can be served on a hoagie, over pasta, or eaten alone. You just need 20 minutes to prep your recipe, then about 5 hours to cook them.
Here’s how to make crock pot meatball and a tomato mushroom sauce that will make your mouth water.
Ingredients
For a large batch of meatballs:
- 3 lbs of ground beef
- 2 eggs
- 1 to 1 1/2 cup of breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup of fennel seeds
- 1/2 cup of freshly grated Parmigiano Reggiano
- 2 cloves of garlic
- 1 small yellow onion
- 1 tsp. of Italian seasoning
- Salt and pepper to taste
For the sauce:
- 1/2 cup of red wine
- 24 oz. can of tomato puree
- 14 oz. can of crushed tomatoes
- 1 yellow onion, sliced
- 1 red bell pepper, sliced
- 10 oz. of sliced cremini mushrooms
- 2 tsp. of Italian seasoning
- Salt and pepper
Directions
Step 1) Pulse your onions and garlic in a food processor.
Step 2) Mix your ground beef, onions and garlic puree, fennel seeds, grated cheese, bread crumbs, eggs, Italian seasoning, salt and pepper in a large bowl.
Step 3) Take your ground beef mixture and form your balls. You can use an ice cream scooper to help you size your balls or make them smaller if you’re making cocktails meatballs.
Step 4) Put a drizzle of oil at the bottom of your crockpot and place your meatballs inside. Cook them on high for 2 hours.
Step 5) Once your two hours are up add in the ingredients for your sauce to your crock pot. Put it in right on top of your meatballs, cover your pot, and cook on high for 2 hours and 45 minutes.
Step 6) Stir everything up in your pot, season to taste and enjoy!
