The best part about this recipe is that it can be made into a freezer meal.* Make a batch to eat immediately because you won’t be able to resist it once you smell it cooking. Then, once you’re stuffed make another batch to freeze for when you find yourself craving it again. The directions for both scenarios are below.
Ingredients:
- 4 whole, boneless chicken breasts/thighs
- 1 c. honey
- 1/2 c. soy sauce
- 1/4 c. hoisin sauce
- 1 tsp. sesame oil
- 2 cloves garlic (minced)
- 6 tbsp. cold water
- 2 tbsp. corn starch
- For Garnish:
- Sliced green onions
- Sesame seeds
First, you are going to cut the chicken into bite-sized pieces to place at the bottom of your crock-pot.
Then, in a small bowl mix the honey, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, sesame oil and garlic. Pour the mixture over the chicken.
Cover the crock-pot and set it to low for 3-4 hours. You’ll want to make sure the chicken is cooked fully.
After that, you will pour the liquid from the chicken into a medium saucepan. Bring it to a simmer on the stovetop. Then mix together the cold water and cornstarch in a separate bowl. Once combined, pour the mixture into the simmering sauce.
Cook the sauce for about 3-4 minutes until it has thickened. Keep the saucepan simmering on medium heat.
Once thickened, pour the sauce back over the chicken. Then, you’re ready to serve the delicious dish with rice and a veggie of your choice. For an extra flair, garnish the dish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds.
*To make this a freezer meal, simply cut up the chicken and pour all of the ingredients, except for the water and cornstarch, over it in a freezer bag. Push out the air, seal it, and freeze it until you’re ready to prepare it.
When you’re ready to prepare the frozen Honey Sesame Chicken, let it partially thaw before placing it into the crock-pot. Cover it and cook it on low for 6-7 hours. Then, you follow the directions exactly the same as if you were making it that day.
