If the end of summer has you excited for the colder months, then do I have the recipe for you. The beginning of fall means that people tend to want heavier, warmer foods than they’ve been eating during the heat.
The Turkish YouTube channel Efsane Tarifler (Legendary Recipes) showcases traditional Turkish recipes.
This doughy chicken and vegetable tart is just the thing to satisfy everyone’s craving.
For the dough, you need one cup each of warm water and warm milk. Then get a tablespoon each of granulated sugar, dry yeast, and olive oil.
Additionally, you need a teaspoon of salt and 5 cups of flour.
To make the filling, this is what you’ll need:
First, for the vegetables, you need 3 onions, 3 tomatoes, 5 green peppers, and 2 red peppers. You also need 500 grams of chicken breast.
After that, you need some herbs and spices, such as 5-6 sprigs of parsley, 2 tablespoons of olive oil, and a teaspoon each of salt, pepper, cumin, and thyme.
Begin by making the dough.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the water, milk, sugar, and yeast. After mixing those together, add the flour in slowly.
You may have to knead the dough a bit to get the right consistency. Then drizzle the olive oil over it.
While the dough is rising, prepare the filling.
In this filling, you need to chop a lot of vegetables. Assemble the onion, parsley, tomatoes, and peppers. Then, dice them into small pieces and put them all together in a bowl.
When that’s done, you’re going to do the same thing with your chicken breast.
When everything is chopped up, mix those pieces all in a bowl along with your spices and olive oil.
By now, your dough is ready to go.
Fold the risen dough into a ball. This is important so that you can make even-sized sections of the dough. You’re going to slice the dough into small triangular pieces.
When the dough is evenly cut up, shape each piece into a small ball.
All of these steps are to ensure that the pieces are the same shape and size because your next step is to transfer the balls onto a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Once the balls are on the parchment paper, flatten them so that they are small, even circles.
Put the filling into the dough.
It’s all starting to come together now. Use a spoon to scoop the filling out from its bowl. A tablespoon should get you just the right amount of filling for each piece of dough.
The filling will sit right on top of the dough. You can use your spoon to press it in and make sure that the filling sticks to the dough.
Bake at 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
Once everything is put together, all you have to do is bake it.
The dough should be turning a nice golden brown and the chicken should be fully cooked.
If you want, top it with shredded cheese and stick it back in the oven until the cheese has melted! Wow, that looks good for just about any time!
