When we are in a hurry or don’t feel like cooking, we usually order fast food.
It fills us up, and we don’t have to worry about cooking anymore.
Then again, no matter how delicious fast food is, home-cooked meals are always the best.
Combining the best of both worlds
If you have time, it’s still best to make food from scratch, right?
You’re doing this not just for you, but for your loved ones as well.
We found a YouTube video from Einfache Rezepte that shows a recipe for making a superb breakfast that claims to be better than the famous McMuffin.
Many would think that it’s such a big claim, but if you watch the video, you’ll agree.
McMuffins no more
This recipe isn’t just delicious, it’s also fun to build.
How can it be described?
It’s therapeutic and relaxing, and the end product is perfection.
The ingredients:
For the dough
- 1 cup of softened butter
- 3⅓ cups of all-purpose flour
- 2 cold eggs
- 1/4 cup of powdered sugar
- 1/2 tsp. of salt
- 2 tbsp + 1 rounded tsp. (or 20 grams) of fresh yeast
- 3/4 cups of cold milk
- 2 tbsp of butter
For the filling:
- Ham
- Cheese
- 6 eggs
For smearing:
- 2 /8 tbsp (or 30 grams) of butter
- Salt
- Marjoram
To Make:
First, place a piece of parchment paper on a flat surface.
The size should be 20 cm x 25 cm or roughly 8 x 10 inches.
Get your room-temperature butter and lay it on the parchment paper.
Cover with another parchment paper of the same size.
Time to roll
Get your rolling pin and press down on the butter while rolling until it forms a square.
Take your time.
This step is enjoyable.
Dough time
Once you’ve got your butter rolled out, transfer it to the fridge and start making the dough.
In your mixing bowl, place your fresh yeast, cold milk, and powdered sugar.
Mix well.
Measure your flour and add it to the mixture.
Add in the salt, softened butter, and cold eggs.
Using your mixer, mix well until a dough is formed.
Once done, cover it with plastic.
Refrigerate for 20 minutes.
Dust your work area with flour, get your dough and flatten it into a square.
Dough vs. butter ratio
When rolling out your dough, make sure to roll it out an inch or two larger than the sheet of butter in each direction.
Place the butter sheet on top of the dough in the center.
Now, fold all 4 sides of the dough over the butter in the middle, making sure it’s completely covered.
Once folded, use the rolling pin to flatten it out once more into a large square.
Take the butter-filled dough and fold it into thirds, as seen in the video.
Dust your work area again.
Roll dough out into a square once more.
Now, use a pizza cutter or sharp, flour-dusted knife to cut the sheet of dough into 12 equal squares.
Add 1-2 slices of ham and a slice of cheese to six of the squares.
Use the other six squares to cover the ham and cheese, making a sandwich.
Place them on a baking tray.
Allow them to rise in a warm place for about 20 – 30 minutes.
Melt butter and brush each sandwich.
Now, create a hole at the center of the sandwich by spreading the dough apart.
Crack an egg and place it in the space at the center of each sandwich.
Sprinkle with marjoram and salt.
Bake at 180°C / 356°F for 20 minutes on top/bottom heat.
Once cooked, brush with melted butter.
Serve warm.
The method of incorporating butter and folding the dough creates that scrumptious flaky dough that we all love.
It’s crispy outside and soft on the inside. The filling is so savory. You and your family will love this.
