It’s also known as the “Wonderful Polish Cake” since it only has a few ingredients.
The truth is, most likely you already have them in your kitchen. So, without further ado, let’s get started on making this recipe a reality.
You’ll need the following list to make this wonderful polish cake.
Pro tip: Do the conversions on the measurements ahead of time or bring out the kitchen scale.
Here are the ingredients for the dough:
- 80 grams of butter (1/3 cup)
- 100 ml of milk (1/2 cup)
- 100 ml of water (1/2 cup)
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- 150 grams of flour (1 + 1/2 cup)
- 1 teaspoon of baking powder
- 4 pieces of eggs
And for the cake’s cream:
- 2 pieces of eggs
- 150 grams of sugar (1 + 1/2 cup)
- 100 grams of flour (1 cup)
- 500 ml of milk
- 180-200 grams of butter (3/4 cup)
Now, let’s go over how to do it.
Here are the steps:
First thing is to prepare the dough.
In a deep cooking pan, melt 80 grams of butter. If the butter has melted, add 100 ml of milk, 100ml of water, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt, and bring to a boil.
Ready the dry mixture.
Combine 150 grams of flour and 1 teaspoon of baking powder in a mixing bowl and mix well. Add this dry mixture when the wet mixture above begins to boil. When the dough stops sticking to the pan after thorough mixing, it’s ready.
Then preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (204 degrees Celsius).
Place the dough in a mixing bowl and set aside to cool before adding the eggs. Simply add 1 egg at a time, making sure to fully combine it with the dough.
Now it’s time to bake!
Prepare a 25 cm pan with parchment paper or baking paper at the bottom, as advised in the recipe video. Pour half of the dough onto the first cake layer. Spread evenly and bake for 20 minutes on a medium-low setting of the oven. Repeat this step for the other half of the dough or the second layer of the cake, then set aside.
Next, we can get started on the cake’s cream.
To make the cream, whisk together 2 eggs and 150 grams of sugar. Then add 100 grams of flour and 500 ml of milk, blend well, and bring to a boil, stirring occasionally. Allow the mixture to simmer for 3 minutes after it starts to boil. Cover it and set it aside to cool.
Then prepare the cream butter.
Using a hand mixer, mix 180 – 200 grams of butter in a mixing bowl. Then, one at a time, add a part of the cream mixture, repeating until the entire cream mixture has been used.
Now it’s time to make a layered cake!
Put the first layer of cake back into the pan, then spread the cream mixture on top. Spread the cream evenly before adding the second layer of cake on top, then put it in the fridge for 2 hours.
Lastly, before serving…
Sprinkle some icing sugar (or any other desired topping) on top and enjoy!
