Pie and its history.

According to the American Pie Council, pie has been there since the time of the ancient Egyptians. Romans were known to have made the first pies and they said that the Greeks may have taught them how to make it.

They explained that these pies, “were sometimes made in “reeds” which were used for the sole purpose of holding the filling and not for eating with the filling.” It’s different from how we’ve known pie for the longest time.

There were speculations that the Romans must’ve spread the word about pies around Europe for the reason being the Oxford English Dictionary noted that the word pie was a popular word in the 14th century.

According to them, the first pie recipe was published by the Romans and was for “a rye-crusted goat cheese” and “honey pie.” Also, the early pies were dominantly meat pies.

They also added that “Pyes (pies) originally appeared in England as early as the twelfth century. The crust of the pie was referred to as “coffyn”.”

Enough with history, let’s go back to our cabbage pie recipe.
