Have you ever eaten store-bought cupcakes only to have been thoroughly disappointed by the buttercream? In my opinion, what makes or breaks a great cupcake is the frosting, and unfortunately, grocery store cupcakes seem to be a little lacking. But did you know that you can actually make your own buttercream from scratch and prepare it beforehand? You’ll not only learn how to build your own buttercream, but you can also customize the flavor to meet any desires!
INGREDIENTS:
- 3 cups powdered sugar, sifted
- 8 ounces unsalted butter, at room temperature
- 1/4 teaspoon fine salt
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- 1-2 tablespoons heavy or whipping cream
DIRECTIONS:
Using a stand mixer with the paddle attachment, mix together the sugar and butter. Mix on low speed first so that the powdered sugar doesn’t end up everywhere. When the mixture becomes well blended, increase the speed to medium and beat for another 3 minutes. Add the salt, vanilla, and cream and beat on medium for 1 minute, adding more cream to adjust for cream consistency.
