Although dessert is always good no matter what the dish is, there’s something particularly special about baked goods that you make yourself. Whether it’s homemade cookies, a pie or a cake, you can really taste the love that went into it. Still, no matter how good of bakers we may be, there are always more tricks and tips to learn to take your recipes to the next level. Today, we’re going to show you a unique cake recipe that uses some of these tricks.
That’s right, today we’re going to make a caramelized brown butter cake that has so much flavor and sweetness compared to a normal cake. The trick to this recipe is revealed right away in the name. Although butter always tastes good no matter how it’s prepared, browning your butter before you bake with it adds a whole new layer of flavor and complexity. Once you try this recipe, we guarantee you’ll make it again and again. So let’s get started.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- 1 cup of unsalted butter, room temperature
- 1 1/2 cups of flour
- 4 eggs
- 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder
- 1 cup of sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- 1 1/2 teaspoons of vanilla extract
Here’s what you do:
1. To get started, get out a skillet and set it over low heat. Melt butter in it until it starts foaming and keep stirring it up for about five minutes. Towards the end of this process, the butter should turn golden brown and smell somewhat nutty. At this stage, take it out and put it in a heatproof bowl and cool it in the fridge until it turns solid (for about half an hour). After that, take it out again and bring it back to room temperature.
2. Next, preheat your oven to 350 degrees and make sure you have a rack in the lower middle of the oven. After that, get out a 9×5-inch loaf pan and grease it with butter. Sprinkle it with powdered sugar as well and set it aside.
3. With that ready, beat your browned butter with an electric mixer in a bowl, adding in your sugar and vanilla. Keep beating everything for three to five minutes until everything is well-combined and creamy. Beat your eggs in one at a time as well, being sure to fully incorporate each one before continuing.
4. In another bowl, mix together your flour, salt and baking powder. Gradually add the dry ingredients into the creamed butter until everything is well-combined. When the batter is ready, transfer it into your loaf pans and pop it in the oven for 30 minutes.
5. When the time is up, take the cake out, cover it with foil and bake it for another 25 minutes. Let it cool off in the pan for another 10 to 15 minutes before turning the cake out onto a serving platter!
Although this cake recipe is pretty straightforward, the taste is so much better than most of the regular cake recipes we’ve tried.
