When you ask a person what their favorite mealtime is, more often than not you’re going to hear them say “breakfast” without skipping a beat. They do say it’s the most important meal of the day, after all.

And while there are literally endless breakfast recipes out there to choose from, just about all of them involve eggs in some form or another- and this recipe is no different.

Egg toast might not sound all that amazing but, trust us, once you try it you will never look back.

A video by Meliniskitchen on YouTube has shown us the error of our ways when it comes to making breakfast sandwiches. Turns out, we’ve been doing it all wrong.

Like a fine-tuned combination of French toast, grilled cheese, and an omelet, this recipe is sure to check all the boxes of breakfast food-fare, both the sweet and the savory! The best part? They cook up quick, easy, and all in just one pan.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 2 eggs
  • salt
  • butter
  • 1-2 slices of your favorite cheese
  • 1-2 slices of bread (depending on your appetite)
  • Your favorite flavor of jam

Optional ingredients include:

  • ham
  • bacon
  • sausage
  • green onions
  • salsa
  • whatever else you like in a breakfast sandwich

Yes, you read the ingredients right and jam is definitely a star-player in this Korean-inspired street food. But, of course, that doesn’t mean you can’t westernize it by swapping out the jam for some of your other breakfast faves.

We must admit, however, that if you don’t try the cheese and jam combo at least once in life, you’re doing yourself a serious disservice. The sweet and savory combo is delicious and rave-worthy all on its own.

Here’s how you make it-

Step 1- Get your scramble on

Melt butter in a pan over low heat. Crack the eggs into a wide-mouthed measuring cup or bowl. Scramble them up, throw in a dash of salt, and beat them a little bit more.

Pour the eggs into the pan and give them a tilt until they cover the entire bottom.

Step 2- Soak and flip your bread

Take your bread slices and place each one into the eggs as soon as you’ve gotten them into the pan before they start to solidify. Let them sit for just a second to lightly soak up some of the egg and then flip the bread on its other side and let cook a few moments.

Make sure not to fidget with the eggs. Just let them cook in place on low until they are just about done.

Step 3- Slip and flip

Once the eggs have solidified, take a wide spatula or wooden spoon, and slide it beneath both pieces of toast. Without breaking the egg, flip the toast and eggs over so the egg layer is resting on top of the bread, like this-

Step 4- Fold

Using your spatula and a butter knife or fork (or your fingers, but be careful), lift up the overhanging flaps of egg and fold it onto the toast.

Step 5- Stack and slather

Next, you’ll layer your cheese on one side of the toast and your jam on the other. Of course, if you won’t be using jam, layer whatever your substitute is instead.

Step 6- Flip and behold

Now all that’s left to do is flip one piece of bread on top of the other with your spatula to make your sandwich. Melt another small pat of butter in the pan to keep it from sticking and allow it to cook just until your cheese melts and everything is heated through.
