It’s always a challenge whenever asked to cut a cake of any size.

You always have to check first and analyze the cake. What’s the best way to cut this? How many slices can you make?

But no matter how much we analyze it, we always end up slicing the cake unevenly.

And what if it’s a big cake?

You know the cake that looks like it’s two big cakes combined into one. It’s going to be hard to keep your cut straight. Or the slice will be too big for one person to consume and end up with the cake being thrown away.

On the Rachael Ray show, one of her guests showed a great cake cutting hack that works for everyone.

“You’ve made this beautiful cake for a birthday party. And now it’s so much pressure to create beautiful even slices and to make sure that the first person doesn’t get a teeny slice and the last person gets a big slice, ” her guest said.

Everybody gets an even slice of the cake that they can finish. And they still get to keep the center cake intact and beautiful.

So how do they do it?

Get a regular bowl, preferably one that’s half the size of the cake or maybe 3/4 the size. Place it in the middle of the cake to make a circular indent.

Grab a big knife and slice along the new circle in the middle of the cake.

“What this does is it almost creates a separate cake,” her guest said.

Now go around the outer ring and slice the cake into small squares.

You’ll be able to gauge the slices better this way.

“And now, I can get very even slices. This way, it’s so much easier than going into the center of the cake. And if you don’t end up needing the whole cake, you still have a beautiful [centerpiece],” the guest shared.

Isn’t that such a time-saving cake hack?

It’s actually not a new tip. Most caterers and bakers use this method to cut the big cakes they make or serve. And some home bakers have been doing this cake cutting method for years and their friends thought they were crazy.

“So funny, that is exactly how I was taught to cut a cake, my friends think I’m weird but it really works lol,” Lucy Roy commented on the video.

And then there are some who don’t really care how you cut the cake.

“It’s not like it was so hard to cut before. I mean, as long as it gets to your mouth,” Sincere Moore said.

That’s true. It doesn’t matter how the cake is sliced. It all ends up inside your mouth and into your belly anyway.

And then there are some who have witnessed this cake cutting method used by their family for a specific reason.

“My grandma cut the cake like that but she does it so she can save the center for her,” Mika shared.

And now you now.

And you can do this for any size of a cake. It doesn’t have to be this big. You just need to make sure that your bowl is smaller than the cake.
