We’ve all been eager to see the secrets and surprises wrapped inside of a box. Whether it is a Christmas present we receive or a magic trick we watch, our curiosity creates the excitement. In this featured story, a black box is no secret to a local community of residents who do their best to pay it forward.

Meet Jeanneta, a woman in the neighborhood who built and came up with the idea of the black “blessing box”. This box can be found outside the corner of Jeanneta’s house. In this box usually contains food, baby formula, and other household appliances. These items are put into the box by not only Jeanneta, but also many other local residents, for other residents to use and take just in case they need them. When they can afford to, residents put new items into the “blessing box”, for other residents to take from as well! This cycle of putting and taking from the box has modeled the process of give and take. Those who give, also take, and those who take, also give.

Not only has this “blessing box” helped residents around the house during tough economic times, it has brought a community together in the most unique way. Residents are and continue to be willing to share.

As surprising as this story sounds, Jeanneta remains firm on her actions to continue using the “blessing box”, and hopefully implementing other types of boxes into other nearby neighborhoods. It’s a beautiful act by a beautiful woman, and you have to see it for yourself to believe it!
