For those who are not familiar with the country…
“Azerbaijan, the nation and former Soviet republic, is bounded by the Caspian Sea and Caucasus Mountains, which span Asia and Europe. Its capital, Baku, is famed for its medieval walled Inner City. Within the Inner City lies the Palace of the Shirvanshahs, a royal retreat dating to the 15th century, and the centuries-old stone Maiden Tower, which dominates the city skyline.”
To get started with this recipe, you should have the following ingredients first.
- 7 potatoes (large in size)
- 1 white onion
- 500 grams of ground beef
- 25 grams of butter
- 160 grams of flour
- 1 egg
- Salt
- Pepper
- Red pepper powder
- Vegetable oil
Note: The specific measurements listed on each ingredient is good for 4 pieces as shown in the video tutorial of the recipe.
For the step-by-step procedures…
Step Number 1: Peel the potatoes, chop them into pieces, and boil them until they become soft enough for mashing.
Step Number 2: Peel the onion and chop it into fine pieces. Grease your pan with butter, then put the chopped onions, and simmer.
Step Number 3: Next, add the ground beef to the onion and simmer it until it becomes lightly cooked. Then add salt, pepper, and red pepper powder. Mix them well and continuously, to avoid the meat from getting burnt and sticking onto the pan.
Step Number 4: Go back to the potatoes and check if it’s ready for mashing. If yes, then proceed to the mashing process and do it well using any equipment that you have available. Once done, add 25 grams of butter and mix it well with the mashed potatoes.
Step Number 5: In the same mixture, add 1 egg, and 160 grams of flour, salt, and pepper, then mix well to come up with the perfect mashed potato dough for the potato pancakes.
Step Number 6: Shape the potato dough into pancake shapes and stuff the ground beef meat mixture in.
Step Number 7: Fry them using vegetable oil and make sure that each side gets toasted enough, that way you will be sure that the potato dough gets cooked well.
Step Number 8: Enjoy while it’s hot!
