The truth is, cabbage can get a bad rep sometimes but, really- it shouldn’t.

They’re superfoods of the highest order!

In addition to providing up to 35% of your daily recommended vitamin C, just ½ a cup of cooked cabbage contains significant amounts of vitamin K, magnesium, and folate.

This is not to mention that the versatile veggie is also rich in antioxidants and flavonoids, according to Medical News Today.

So, it may be great and all that cabbage is so good for us but, then, why doesn’t it treat our taste buds equally as good?

Well, we’ve got a secret to tell you – if you don’t like the taste of cabbage, chances are you’re cooking it wrong.

This crunchy beast of a veggie is made to be paired with other ingredients that truly make it stand out for the rockstar food that it is.

It makes perfect sense that bacon would pair so well with cabbage when you think about it. Bacon, after all, is known for bringing out that certain je ne sais quoi with just about anything it’s paired with.

Maple bacon bars and bacon chocolate cupcakes are just two of the many that come to mind. And if it can make delectable goodies like these zing even more, why would you expect anything less out of the “breakfast meat” when it’s cooked up with something savory like cabbage?

Well, we’re here to tell you that bacon and cabbage are a match made in heaven – and they belong on every family’s menu!

Just chop it up into nice, thick, bite-sized chunks and throw it into a stock-pot over medium-high heat. You’ll keep cooking it until it starts to crisp up.

As your bacon is crisping, chop your garlic and onion.

Just as your bacon begins to crisp up, add in your garlic and onion and give it a good stir.

Keep sautéing the onions and garlic until the onions start to carmelize in color. This process will take roughly 5-10 minutes, depending on your stovetop.

As soon as your onions have caramelized, dump in all of your chopped cabbage and stir well to make sure it all gets coated in the bacony, oniony goodness.

Once you’ve stirred in the cabbage, let it wilt a bit before adding in your spices. Then, stir in paprika, onion and garlic powders, and season it with salt and pepper to taste.

Cover up the pot, reduce the temp to low, and let the whole thing simmer for another 20-30 minutes.

When it’s done, it should come out looking like this:
