Here’s what you’ll need:

9-inch pie dish

Ingredients:

6-8 baking apples – we used 2 Granny Smith, 2 Braeburn, and 2 Fuji

1/2 lemon, juiced

1 cup white sugar

3 tbsp. cornstarch

1/8 tsp. nutmeg

1/2 tsp. cinnamon

Pinch of Salt

2 tbsp. butter

1 egg, beaten

Ready to use pie dough

Directions:

  1. Peel your apples and slice them into quarters. From here, slice out the core and slice to your desired size. If you want to add some life to each bite, we recommend using a few different types of apples. The variety of textures and flavors blend well, giving your pie an edge above the rest.
  2. Toss the sliced apples into a bowl and add in your lemon juice and mix until the apples are coated nice and evenly.
  3. Then add the sugar, nutmeg, cinnamon, and a small pinch of salt and toss the apples, mixing until the sugar dissolves.
  4. Add cornstarch, mix until it dissolves as well, and boom – you’ve finished your pie filling.
  5. Take your 9-inch pie dish, roll out the premade dough and press it into the dish. If the dough was frozen, wait until it thaws to avoid cracking.
  6. Add in your apples to the dish and pour over the remaining juice left in the bowl.
  7. Place some of the butter on top of the apples, then set down another layer of dough. Tuck the top layer inside the bowl and roll the bottom later over it, pinching the dough together.
  8. Slice in a few air vents for the heat to pass through as the pie bakes. Feel free to get creative with it!
  9. Place the pie dish on top of a baking sheet lined with aluminum foil. Sometimes things will boil over and you want to be prepared if they do!
  10. Finish the pie off by spreading a thin layer of egg over the top and sprinkle some sugar over it.
  11. Place it into the oven for 1 hour or until golden brown.

Enjoy yourself a slice of the season!
