He is a five-time GRAMMY Award-winner and a Hall of Famer! The “Piano Man”, the one and only, Billy Joel.
From the 20 long years of his career as a solo artist, he produced 33 Top 40 hits in the U.S. – all of which he wrote himself.
He also received several more prestigious awards like the Album of the Year for 52nd Street, the Johnny Mercer Award from the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and the Kennedy Center Honors.
A group of six young men arranged an acapella remake to one of Billy Joel’s hits, “Longest Time.”
It would usually take days or even weeks to completely prepare a beautiful rendition of this song (or any song perhaps). But these guys just redefined the meaning of “rush” because they were able to accomplish something that even professionals might find “impossible” to do.
They did everything from scratch to finish in just 4 hours!
In a video back in 2016, 6 young men named Chris Bandy, Cory Blackmon, Cooper Case, Mark Denman, John Frederick, and JP Stephens, made a beautiful acapella version of this Billy Joel 80s classic hit.
Though there’s no telling if they only had limited time to prepare everything, what they did was just simply unbelievable!
Are they good? You be the judge.
The start of the video shows the rest of the group all in line while Chris is preparing everything before they go live with the recording.
With a little accompaniment of a low-volume electronic finger-snapping sound and using the different tones of their voices, these talented guys immediately dish out a beautiful harmony.
It becomes even more splendid when Chris goes solo.
While he is singing beautifully, the rest of the guys continue to create a perfect blend, complementing Chris’ vocals.
After his solo, another man takes his turn singing and there’s no toppling the concentration of all the six men. And to think that they only had 4 hours to prepare is really unimaginable.
Billy Joel would be so proud of these young gentlemen.
They are just ridiculously talented! Each of the guys has unique vocals and everyone holds an important part in the group, thus resulting in a captivatingly beautiful acapella performance.
Each member takes turns in belting out their solo parts, and there’s no setting aside each of these guys’ vocal prowess.
Taking one of them out of the group would surely ruin the entire chilling performance.
As they finally reach the end of the song, it all goes back to Chris for the finishing touch.
For the last stanza of the song, he unleashes his great vocals to a powerful performance ender. The rest of the group goes full-blast with their parts making a full display of their voices. They truly are something to behold!
And can you imagine what they could have possibly accomplished if only they had more time to prepare?
The video went viral, which is no surprise at all!
The video went viral and garnered over 2.7 million views on YouTube alone. Some of the comments sing praises to their amazing acapella music, while the others are ecstatic to see more from the talented guys.
One commenter wrote:
“Fellow music teacher here and this makes me cry. I love it! I know full well how much hard work went into this, and I know you know how far they have to go but they are doing a great job for this age!! I’ve got your back! Do us all a favor and have them do it again as seniors and then let us listen again. This crew has some talent and they are headed in the right direction for sure.”
While another one commented:
“I know this was made 4 years ago but who wishes they could reunite and make new videos?”
