We always say this- parenting isn’t easy.

As a parent, you are literally taking care of another life, a life that you want to see blossom in the years to come.
Being a parent can be a ton of work, but it’s also a huge blessing.
However, not everyone was given the chance to be a parent and to be called “mom” or “dad”. Sadly, due to some unfortunate circumstances, not everyone is blessed with a biological son or daughter.
Thankfully, things became possible them, too when ‘adoption’ was born. This legal process gives married couples and even single individuals the chance to adopt a child. But not all adoption stories start out beautiful- just like this one.
A heartbreaking story.
Anthony was hopeful that he’d finally found his forever family when he was supposedly adopted by his foster “parents”.
He was just four years old back then (he is now eleven), and he thought that seven years of being together with that family was a pretty solid foundation. He thought that they would finally lend him their last name.
His long wait was finally over- but sadly, not in the way he had thought it would be.
The family inexplicably took him to the hospital and just…abandoned him.
His hopes were shattered to smithereens just like that. All the seven years of what he thought was love became a nightmare of a lifetime that will haunt him forever.

Ultimately, to consider their cruel actions as being legal is beyond our comprehension.
“All the promises of a forever family were thrown out the window and this young boy was left alone, abandoned, frightened, and crushed emotionally.”
We may not know the reason why they discarded him in an instant, it may be too early to judge his ex-parents. But when we discovered that it wasn’t the first time that they put up a “pretend parent” show like that, that’s when our doubts were put to an end.
They wronged the poor boy, we can’t even imagine the immense amount of pain that the tragic incident has brought him. To call his ex-parents cruel is actually an understatement, they are heartless monsters!

“He didn’t know when or if they were ever coming back for him because he was not in on the plan they orchestrated to abandon their child. Most people could not conceive that a parent could do this to a child, yet this was not their first time. You see, they did the exact same thing to their other adopted son a couple of years before, sadly enough.”

When Peter first began his journey as a foster dad, he took good care of two brothers, they were four and ten years old. They changed his life as much as he changed theirs.
It also changed his understanding of how much a person could love another human being.

In a bitter-sweet turn of events, after seven months of love and support for the boys, Family Court decided to reunite the brothers with their biological parents.
He was caught off-guard by the heartbreak, the unforeseen goodbyes were so painful that it probably punched a hole in his heart.

His endless hours of training just to become a licensed foster parent meant nothing at that moment.
All the manuals that he read taught him nothing about how to deal with these kinds of breakups. It must’ve been so hard for him, he must’ve had sleepless nights, how he fought through it is still everybody’s guess.
But because of his beautiful heart, he came to terms with it.
After the court’s decision, Peter realized that the boys would actually be with their real family and grow in the loving arms of their birth parents.
He thought of this fact as a piece of good news for the entire family, but it didn’t cease the pain inside him.

This tragic experience made him refuse a request to foster a then 11-year-old Anthony “just for the weekend.”
The wound in his heart was still fresh and taking another heartbreak would probably make him go crazy. After all, it had only been four days since he lost his foster children.
“…the right child at the right time.”
That was his social worker’s way of persuading him.
We can’t blame Peter for having fears this time, he’s just a man trying to become a good parent in his own little ways, and being denied once made him think about things a little.
We have this famous line that says, “everything happens for a reason.” Who knows? Peter and Anthony’s heartbreak might lead them to the genuine happiness that they’ve been searching for.
Peter’s dark past pushed him to brighten up the future.

They lived before in a small, impoverished village near the border of Uganda and Rwanda.

He thought that being a foster father would only require a temporary guiding and looking after children whose parents are unavailable to cater to their children’s needs.
That’s the mistake that he’s more than happy to admit.
His perception of things suddenly changed:
“Never in my wildest dreams did I anticipate I would be parenting the child of two parents who had led lives that passed the extensive background check standards involved with parenting foster children, only just to abandon not one, but two of their children.”
In the beginning, Peter didn’t ask his social worker details about Anthony.
He was afraid that knowing why Anthony was in foster care would only add to his piling sadness. He didn’t want to be too emotionally attached to the boy knowing that he was only there for the weekend, as agreed.
That changed when Anthony straight-up called him “Dad!”
“I told him he could call me ‘Mr. Peter’ and 20 minutes after his arrival, he asked if he could call me ‘Dad.’ What? I didn’t even know his last name, yet he was asking to call me ‘Dad.’ This was not typical, as most children in foster care initially want to remind you that you are not their father and ‘never will be.’ This child I had just met was not even presenting that argument.”
He was shocked and he refused to be called that right away.
His immediate answer was “NO! NO! NO!” He said that calling him dad wasn’t necessary for he’s only staying with him for two days and that he’d be off right after.
The day came for Anthony to say goodbye, and by that time Peter had built up the courage to ask his social worker about the boy’s backstory.
He was devastated by the answer that he got. He wasn’t even sure if what they did to Anthony was legal!
According to the social worker, Anthony has been abandoned first by his biological parents at the age of two. Then the next family who took care of him for almost ten years also dumped him at a hospital.
The shocking backstory of Anthony left Peter crying out of anger for what the poor kid had undergone at such a young age.
“They signed an agreement relinquishing their parental rights and never looked back. I was completely shocked! I could not believe what I was hearing. I began to cry out of anger for what these people had done to this 11-year-old child.”
Peter then knew Anthony’s story, and he also knew that it’s about time to put Anthony’s misery into an end!

He’s not letting anyone, even himself, become an addition to the long list of people who broke the boy’s heart.
“I refused to allow him to be cast aside again. Besides, he was already calling me ‘Dad.’ I asked the social worker to provide me with a placement letter so I could enroll him in school the following day. She asked me about 100 times if I was serious and we both cried tears of joy.”
He made sure that the social worker no longer needed to worry about where Anthony’s food, shelter, or love would come from, for he was ready to provide it all.
In fact, he’s already willing and determined to spoil the kid with the pleasure of calling him Dad!

On the beautiful day of November 12, 2019, Peter permanently gave Anthony his last name!
Anthony became his official son, he’s now allowed to call Peter his dad for as long as he wants!
They now share a happy, beautiful life together as father and son, no more heartaches, no more pains, and no more tears, except for tears of joy!
“This is the blessing I am most thankful for in my life. It has been an amazing journey. I’m amazed at how resilient and positive he is, despite all that he has had to endure.”
