But this should be a no-fuss recipe. What makes this everyone’s favorite is that it’s simple, and the ingredients are right in your very home.

What’s the secret to a perfect egg fried rice?

There are two main secrets to cooking the perfect egg fried rice: using a hot wok on an open-fire stove (no, not an induction cooker!) and the key ingredient – cold, day-old rice! Well, not precisely a day old, but the leftover from your last meal would do. Place it in the fridge and prepped for your fried rice.

This version of the egg fried rice is easy, and it only takes five minutes to prepare. And because this dish is very versatile, most of the spices and sauces are optional

Here’s how you make egg fried rice in just five minutes.

First, beat some eggs in a bowl and season with a pinch of salt. The ratio of egg to serving is 1:1, or you can add more eggs if you want more in your fried rice.

Next, chop some green onions. In the video, she added onions while cooking the rice. However, you can set aside half of it and sprinkle it after the fried rice is cooked.

Then, heat the wok and add a tablespoon of oil. Swirl the oil around, so it covers the entire surface of the wok. Make sure that the wok is hot enough before placing anything on it.

Pour the beaten eggs and mix or scramble them. Once it is cooked halfway, you can add more oil and the leftover rice from your fridge. Yep, the best way to cook it is to cook it cold.

Season the rice however you want. You can either use salt or soy sauce (this recipe uses both) or even add some black pepper, garlic bits, and so on. Instead of soy sauce, you can use ketchup, light soy, or sriracha.

Mix all the ingredients until it is cooked. Some people usually wait until some rice bits are already toasty or crunchy.

Once done, serve the rice hot on a plate. You can top it with the other half of green onions, sesame seeds, or toasted garlic bits. The best thing about egg fried rice is you can pair this with any vegetable or protein for your meal.

Ingredients:

  • 4 Eggs
  • Cold Rice
  • 3 tbsp. Cooking oil
  • Salt
  • 2 tbsp. Soy sauce
  • Green onion

Directions:

  1. Beat four eggs in a bowl and add a pinch of salt.
  2. Chop the green onions. Set aside.
  3. Heat the wok on high heat and add a tablespoon of cooking oil. Swirl around the pan, so the entire surface is covered in oil.
  4. Pour the eggs into the wok and scramble.
  5. Add the remaining oil when the egg is half cooked.
  6. Add the rice and season with salt and soy sauce. Mix all ingredients until they’re well blended.
  7. Add the green onion.
  8. Serve hot on a plate as a side dish to your meal.
