Being on quarantine means having a lot of time to try out new things. For some people, it’s an opportunity to try out their skills in baking. While some have succeeded, others didn’t experience much luck. From burnt cakes to odd-looking cookies, here are some of the worst quarantine baking fails.
1. An Easter bunny
This one was supposed to look like an Easter bunny. I’m not sure what happened, but it turned out like a car ran over it. Except for the ears, no one would think it’s a bunny!
2. Almost perfect
If you look at it from the other side, you wouldn’t think it’s a baking disaster. From this side, however, it looks like it’s part poop and part bread. Ooops!
3. Escaping bread
This sourdough bread looks like it tried to escape the oven. I wouldn’t blame it. The oven’s way too hot!
4. Ultimate baking fail
Some people have skills when it comes to cooking and baking. Apparently, this person isn’t one of them.
Well, everybody has to start somewhere. I hope this man gives his wife more chances to practice her baking skills. She might get better at it- or not.
6. Too close
I know cookies are exempted from the social distancing rules. I know cookies aren’t supposed to be clumped together, too.
7. Good start
This man accomplished three things this quarantine. He was able to check his fire alarm and know how alert his neighbors are. He also learned that baking isn’t for him.
This “pizza” proves how important it is to check the expiration date of your yeast before working on a baking project. It also shows how important it is to only use yeast when a recipe requires yeast. Otherwise, you’ll end up with a flat bread and not pizza.
9. Close enough
This woman may not have baked the exact bunnies but she was close. She’s got the eyes and ears. A little more work and she’ll be able to make the body, too!
10. Not what you think it is
This braided bread doesn’t look appetizing at all. It literally looks like a pan of poop. Sorry, but I’ll have to pass.
11. Importance of measurement
When it comes to baking, taking the exact measurement of your ingredients is important. If you use too much baking soda, you may end up with something like this.
Usually, dogs will test any food you offer them. This pug, however, looks too scared to even look at that bread. I don’t think it has something to do with its size.
13. The sick Easter bunny
This is probably the most unhealthy looking Easter bunny you’ll see. It looks like it’s suffering from inflammation and ear problems.
Let’s give this person an “A” for effort. Even though he didn’t manage to get the rainbow right, at least he was able to put all the colors in his bread.
15. These cookies
16. Failed bunnies
These cookies don’t look anything like bunnies. They actually look more like the cookies you bake for Halloween. I don’t think kids would find these fun to eat.
I guess this person should go back to social media and leave his kitchen behind. He doesn’t look like he’s doing a good job baking cookies.
18. A sheep?
This cake looks like a dog covered in soap. The one who made it, however, think it’s a sheep. It was a good thing that the cake tasted good.
19. The nightmare cupcake
Cupcakes are supposed to look pretty and make you feel good. However, this one is a bit different. It looks like it’s supposed to give you nightmares.
20. Blame the flour
The macarons exploded instead of rising. The self-made almond flour is probably the one to blame for this quarantine baking failure.
This literally looks like a pan of poop. Fortunately, the pretzels tasted great. It tasted even better with Nutella.
22. Instant bowl
This banana bread didn’t turn out as expected. On the bright side, it came with an instant bowl. The baker won’t have to worry about where to put the extra icing.
23. Old bread making machine
This is one good reason why you should always check the quality of your machines, particularly if they are already old. As expected, the 30-year-old bread making machine used to make this bread didn’t deliver.
24. Trying to escape
That’s one seriously hot oven. The cinnamon buns weren’t able to take the heat and decided to escape while inside the oven.
25. Wrong vs right
The difference between these two? The temperature of the ingredients. The left one properly raised while the one on the right is very dense.
26. Third time
They say practice makes you better. Unfortunately, for this person, his third time making macarons was still a failure.
27. Pancake cookies
These chocolate cookies look too flat. They look more like pancakes to me.
28. Savory cookie
If you want to try out new things this quarantine, adding cilantro to your cookie might be a good idea. If you’re like most of us who like our cookies sweet, stick with the usual recipe.
29. Lockdown baking
No, this isn’t a charcoal-infused bread. It’s a severely burnt bread and the baker can’t figure out how it happened. Fortunately, she managed to succeed with her second try.
30. Trying out a new hobby
Everyone is good at something. For this woman, it’s obviously not baking. She should probably try her luck with gardening or painting.
31. First try
The baker knew that she’s bound to fail in making these macarons. Well, at least she gave it a try. There’s nothing wrong with failing your first batch because you can always do it again.
32. Macarons gone wrong
The top side is a failure. The bottom part is a lot worse. I guess this baker should re-do her double broiler set-up.
33. Internet-inspired bread
Honestly, the bread looks great. It might not look exactly as the one from the internet, but it’s close enough. It’s a home-cooked bread after all.
34. Baguette fails
This baguette looks different from the ones you can buy in shops and bakeries. Despite that, I’d still eat it. It doesn’t look too bad for me.
35. Lopsided macaron
I’m not sure if being lopsided has an effect on taste. If not, I think the baker should keep her macarons this way. It makes them look more unique, right?
36. Important lesson
This is one good reason why you shouldn’t forget to butter all the sides of your pan. Greasing and lining the pan help ensure that your cake won’t stick.
37. A bad batch
Do people still eat the bad batches of macarons? I know I would, particularly if they are tasty. Like they say, don’t judge a book by its cover.
38. Banana bread disaster
There are several reasons why this happened. The baker probably forgot to grease the pan or she turned it out too early. It’s also possible that she didn’t use the right size for the pan.
39. Elephant ear cookies
These cookies look more like the images you’d see in women’s clinics. They’ll fit an embryonic development chart well.
40. So close
This baker nearly nailed these macarons, particularly the top right and bottom one. I guess with a few more tries, she’ll be able to make a perfect batch.
