Unique and weird food combinations are nothing new. Just look at Elvis Presley who loved peanut butter and banana sandwiches. While this might sound disgusting, it’s actually quite good.
Now, a man posted a video online of a recipe that consists of chicken and Sprite. So far, it’s been viewed more than 9.5 million times. Even better, a lot of people tried it and agree that it’s beyond delicious.
Cooking Instructions
First, you want to prepare all the ingredients. Start by cutting one whole red onion into bite-sized pieces. If you want them slightly smaller, that’s okay. Then, dice six cloves of garlic. With that done, set these two items aside.
Next, thoroughly rinse a two- to a three-pound whole chicken and then pat it dry. Place the chicken on a clean cutting board and then open the empty cavity. Sprinkle roughly one teaspoon of salt and a quarter teaspoon of pepper inside.
With that done, put the chopped onion and garlic into the cavity, as well. Carefully close the skin flap. That way, the ingredients won’t spill out during the cooking process.
Moving on, rub a small amount of oil on one side of the chicken. Then, sprinkle on about a quarter teaspoon of crushed lemongrass. Turn the chicken over and repeat this step on the other side.
You will need a raised grid inside the Dutch oven for the chicken to sit on. If you don’t have one, make one with two spoons and two forks placed in a crisscross pattern. That will prevent the meat from scorching while the dish cooks.
Now comes the fun part. With the chicken in the Dutch oven, pour one liter of Sprite over the top of it. With that done, add one packet of prepared oyster sauce. For this, simply select any brand you want.
Cover the Dutch oven and bring the chicken to a boil. Then, remove the lid so you can pour in one cup of soy sauce. Again, cover the pot, reduce the temperature, and continue cooking for about an hour or a little longer for an extra-large chicken.
Once the chicken cooks all the way through remove it from the Dutch oven and place it in a serving dish or on a cutting board. Sprinkle finely chopped scallions on top. The only other thing left to do is eat it and enjoy the fantastic flavors.

Recipe Summary
This chicken recipe might be easy and made with just a few ingredients but it’s delicious. Start by chopping a red onion into small chunks. Then, dice cloves of garlic. Wash a whole chicken, pat it dry, and then sprinkle salt and pepper inside the cavity.
With that done, put the onion and garlic in the cavity. Next, rub both sides of the chicken with oil, followed by sprinkling on lemongrass. Inside a Dutch oven, set the chicken on a raised grid or make one using eating utensils as shown in the video to prevent the meat from burning while it cooks.
After placing the chicken in the pot, add the Sprite and prepackaged oyster sauce. Cover the Dutch oven with a lid and bring the dish to a boil. As soon as it reaches that point, reduce the heat to a much lower temperature and add the soy sauce.
Again, cover the pot and allow the chicken to simmer for about an hour. When it’s cooked all the way through, take the chicken out and set it on a serving platter. The last step … sprinkle scallion on top and then get ready to dive in.
